DAVY JONES INTERVIEW WITH MARK COPOLOV

SOUTHERN FM, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
August 24, 1999 Translated by Ness

("Valleri" and "Star Collector" are played.)

Mark (interviewer): Let's go back to Mr. Davy Jones. All right, moving onto "Daydream Believer", and absolute classic written by JohnStewart. Now, I interviewed Howard Kaylan, I've become friends with him since I interviewed him last year. He's a great guy, the lead singer of the Turtles. And in our interview, we spoke about Chip Douglas, and it's interesting that, at the beginning of the song, you say, "What number is this, Chip?" "7A" "OK, don't get excited, man, just because I'm short, I know." And then I found out who Chip was - your producer.

David: Yeah, Chip was a guy that had worked with the Turtles, produced some songs for them, sang with them, and played bass for them. He'd also been involved with a number of other groups, and he's with a group called MFQ. MFQ is a great folk group that had Jerry Yesster, Cyrus Faryar, Chip Douglas and Henry Diltz, who are all still in touch, still friends. We all talk. It was a wonderful time, the 60's, when we were making records. The Association were trying to knock us off the charts. The Turtles and the Beach Boys.... There was a great buzz around town. We were all going to the same parties, seeing the same girls, doing all the same things. It was like a school full of young guys, out there trying to make it, and a lot of us did.
